Facilitation Services

Public meetings are required in many environmental permitting and cleanup regulatory processes.  Using a facilitator with the training and experience in both the technical requirements and the public relations skills can:

+ Prevent delays in permitting

+ Coordinate proper public involvement

+ Prioritize public concerns

Without proper planning and coordination, a public meeting can quickly turn into a very bad experience for the presenters and the attendees creating a near impossible situation to resolve or find solutions. High concern, Low Trust situations require a different approach in coordinating public involvement.

Alarming or bad news causes human brains to go into a state of cognitive dissonance...basically shutting down of abilities to take in or process information.  To assist people in coping and understanding a crisis or emergency situation, changes in communication are necessary.

Recommendations:

Limit the number of messages

Limit the words in messages

Limit the time for communicating messages

Limit the complexity of messages

Compliance

We believe there is more to compliance than just checklists, widgets, technology and facility layout.
In most situations we've helped to get companies get back into compliance, there was a serious breakdown in communication:
People didn't have the correct information ('I didn't know the pump wasn't working')
or,
serious lack of knowledge: ('No one told me I couldn't do that...')
or,
really serious lack of documentation: ('I gave him the piece of paper, I don't know what s/he did with it...')

Compliance takes place in a human organization, with all the good and bad that goes along with it.

Training

Why do people groan when they are told they have to go to training?  Two major reasons: Bad Trainers and Bad Training.

Just because someone knows a subject matter, doesn't mean they can teach.  The focus of effective training is on the student...how you get the information into their head so they can use it.

Reading PowerPoint slides is NOT training. An effective trainer puts the information into a context that makes sense to the attendee and gets them to relate the concept to their job/tasks/life.

Hands-on training is not 'Monkey See, Monkey Do'.  People learn by observation up until they are about 7 yrs old.  Then, the human brain reorganizes and requires context and relevancy to make information stick.

People learn through their senses: auditory, visual and kinesthetic/tactile.  However, no one is only one type of learner so we design training to utilize all the senses.

At LeadRite, Inc. we utilize the concepts of Adult Learning in preparation and presentation of all training.

Adult Learners are:

Autonomous and self-directed:  they must be involved in the learning process and figure out how it benefits them personally...like being able to go home each day with all their fingers, toes, eyes, ability to breathe, etc.

Have existing life experiences and knowledge: connect the training to what they already know and show them the benefits of safe work practices.

Goal-oriented: demonstrate how the use of safety equipment and safe work practices will make their job 'easier' or better.

Relevency-oriented: give them reasons to learn the safe way of working.

Practical: give them useful information that applies directly to their work...not pie in the sky theories.

An effective trainer knows how to:

  • Movitate the adult learner.
  • Remove barriers from participating in the learning experience.
  • Properly reinforce safe behaviors and performance.
  • Assign the correct degree of importance to the material so the adult learner can retain it.

The Safety Training Page lists our training classes.  However, we can help you put your own training program together.  Give us a call....training is necessary but it doesn't have to be painful.
